To let golf clubs send you promos in real time we use an evolution of iBeacon technology. This new technology extends location services in modern mobiles OS.
Your iOS or Android device can alert Golf Passepartout app when you approach or leave a location in the golf club. In addition to monitoring location, an app can estimate your proximity to an iBeacon (for example, it can notice you are on the tee of the hole 18). Instead of using latitude and longitude to define the location, iBeacon uses a Bluetooth low energy signal, which devices detect.
This feature let you receive promos exactly when you need. For Example you can receive special offer from the pro shop entering in the club or a special lunch menu on the tee of the last hole.
You should know that iBeacon beacons don’t track you or collect data from your mobile phone. They can only transmit information to your phone. They provide data about location to Golf Passepartout app, tell the app where you are with vastly higher precision than, say GPS or cell-tower triangulation can, and they can do it indoors. Any reporting of location, any transmission of data, any downloading of data happens through your phone’s WiFi or mobile broadband connection, controlled by the app and governed by the permissions you’ve granted.
